Author Guidelines

The journal welcomes original manuscripts aligned with its scientific scope. Before beginning a submission, authors must read these guidelines, use the official manuscript template, and review the applicable editorial policies.

1. General Submission Requirements

The manuscript must:

  • be original and unpublished, except for categories that allow translations, commentaries, replications, or authorized republication;

  • be aligned with the journal’s scope;

  • not be under consideration by another journal at the same time;

  • have been approved by all authors;

  • follow the journal’s official template;

  • comply with all ethical and editorial requirements;

  • include all required declarations.

Simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal is not permitted.

The character count does not include:

  • title;

  • abstract and keywords;

  • references;

  • tables and figures;

  • captions;

  • acknowledgements;

  • supplementary declarations;

  • supplementary materials.

For additional categories, length requirements will be stated in the relevant call for submissions or in the specific section guidelines.

Manuscripts exceeding these limits may be considered when their length is justified by the nature, methodology, or complexity of the research. The final decision rests with the scientific editorial team.

The journal does not establish a page limit.

4. Editorial Process and Peer Review

All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening, during which the following aspects are assessed:

  • alignment with the journal’s scope;

  • scientific relevance;

  • minimum academic quality;

  • clarity and organization of the text;

  • compliance with the official template;

  • compliance with ethical requirements;

  • originality and integrity of the content.

Manuscripts approved at this stage are sent to at least two independent external reviewers.

The journal adopts an open peer review model, in which authors and reviewers are identified. The review reports, reviewer identities, and editorial history become part of the permanent scientific record of the publication.

The final decision to accept, request revisions, or reject a manuscript is the responsibility of the scientific editorial team.

Read the full Open Peer Review Policy.

5. Manuscript Preparation

The main manuscript file must be submitted in an editable format, preferably DOCX.

Depending on the manuscript category, the text may include:

  • title;

  • abstract;

  • keywords;

  • introduction;

  • theoretical framework;

  • methodology;

  • results;

  • discussion;

  • conclusion or final considerations;

  • references;

  • supplementary declarations.

The title must be clear and concise. The abstract must provide a self-contained presentation of the objectives, methodology, main results, and conclusions of the study.

The structure may be adapted to the characteristics of theoretical articles, book reviews, policy briefs, data papers, protocols, and other manuscript categories.

6. Manuscript Template

Complete guidelines on manuscript structure, formatting, tables, figures, equations, references, and file naming are provided in the official manuscript template, which must be used when preparing submissions.

Download manuscript template and full guidelines.

7. Citations and References

The journal adopts the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association — APA, 7th edition, as its standard for citations and references.

All works cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all works included in the reference list must be cited in the manuscript.

Whenever available, the DOI must be provided as a clickable link.

Other reference styles may be considered when duly justified by the authors and approved by the editorial team.

8. Tables, Figures, and Supplementary Materials

Tables and figures must:

  • be mentioned in the text;

  • include a title and sequential numbering;

  • indicate their source;

  • be of suitable quality for publication;

  • comply with applicable copyright and licensing requirements.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce images, tables, research instruments, and other copyrighted materials.

Datasets, research instruments, videos, audio files, software code, documents, and other content may be submitted as supplementary materials.

9. Submission Languages

Manuscripts may be submitted in languages for which adequate editorial and technological support is available for processing, evaluation, and translation.

When the original language is not adequately supported by artificial intelligence-assisted translation or cannot be processed directly by the editorial team, the manuscript must be accompanied by a complete written version in:

  • English;

  • Spanish; or

  • Portuguese.

This supporting version will be used during editorial screening, peer review, and preparation of the translations.

A translation of only the title, abstract, or keywords does not replace the complete written version of the manuscript.

10. Indigenous, Minority, and Less Widely Used Languages

The journal encourages the submission of works produced in Indigenous, minority, or less widely used languages.

When adequate editorial or technological support is not available for the language used, the original manuscript must be accompanied by a complete version in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.

Whenever technically and editorially feasible, the version in the original language may be preserved and published alongside the translated versions.

Authors must provide:

  • the name of the language used;

  • the corresponding linguistic community;

  • the names of those responsible for translation or linguistic validation;

  • any relevant terminological or cultural considerations.

11. Submissions in Brazilian Sign Language — Libras

The journal may accept scientific works presented in Brazilian Sign Language — Libras in audiovisual format.

The submission must include:

  • the complete video in Libras;

  • a written title;

  • an abstract and keywords;

  • identification of the authors;

  • institutional affiliations;

  • written descriptions of tables, graphs, images, and other materials;

  • a complete written version, when available.

When a complete written version is not available, Scientia International may assess the feasibility of supporting or coordinating the transcription and translation of the content after editorial screening.

The translation must be carried out or validated by a qualified professional. Automatic translation systems may not be used as the sole means of linguistic validation.

The published article may include the original Libras video, a transcript, captions, and translated versions.

12. Other Sign Languages

Submissions in other sign languages must be accompanied by a complete written version in English, Spanish, or Portuguese.

Authors must provide:

  • the name of the sign language used;

  • the corresponding country, region, or community;

  • the names of those responsible for interpretation or translation;

  • the procedures used to validate the written version.

Whenever technically feasible, the video in the original sign language may be published as the primary version or as supplementary material.

13. Multilingual Publication

After acceptance, articles are prepared for publication in:

  • English;

  • Spanish;

  • Portuguese.

Translation may be carried out with the support of artificial intelligence tools and other technological resources.

Authors must review the translated versions, paying particular attention to:

  • scientific concepts;

  • technical terminology;

  • proper names;

  • abbreviations;

  • numerical data;

  • citations;

  • cultural or linguistic interpretations.

Authors remain responsible for the scientific and terminological accuracy of all published versions.

Article metadata may also be made available in other languages adopted by Scientia International.

14. Authorship and Contributions

The journal does not establish a maximum number of authors.

All individuals listed as authors must:

  • have made a relevant intellectual contribution;

  • approve the final version of the manuscript;

  • agree to the submission;

  • assume responsibility for the published content.

Exclusively administrative, financial, technical, linguistic, or general supervisory activities do not, by themselves, justify authorship.

A statement describing the individual contributions of each author must be provided, preferably using the CRediT taxonomy.

Changes to authorship after submission, including the addition or removal of authors or changes to the order of authors, must be justified and approved by everyone involved.

15. Author Identification

All authors must provide:

  • full name;

  • institutional affiliation;

  • country;

  • email address;

  • ORCID identifier;

  • contribution to the manuscript.

An ORCID identifier is mandatory for all authors.

One author must be identified as the corresponding author responsible for communication with the journal.

16. Research Ethics

Research involving human participants, animals, personal data, traditional knowledge, or other elements subject to ethical regulation must include the appropriate approvals.

When applicable, the manuscript must provide:

  • the name of the ethics committee;

  • the responsible institution;

  • the approval or protocol number;

  • the informed consent procedure;

  • measures adopted to protect privacy;

  • authorization for the use of images, documents, or sensitive data.

When ethical approval is not required, authors may be asked to provide a justification.

Complete requirements are available in the Scientia International Code of Ethics.

17. Originality and Scientific Integrity

Manuscripts may be assessed using text-similarity detection tools.

Scientific misconduct includes:

  • plagiarism;

  • inappropriate self-plagiarism;

  • fabrication or falsification of data;

  • improper manipulation of images or results;

  • intentional omission of relevant information.

Textual similarity will not be assessed solely on the basis of an automatically generated percentage. The editorial team will evaluate the nature, extent, and context of any identified matches.

Manuscripts presenting originality concerns may be rejected or returned to the authors for clarification and correction.

18. Conflicts of Interest and Funding

All authors must declare any financial, professional, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest that could influence the research or its interpretation.

Funding sources must also be reported, including:

  • the funding institution;

  • the project, grant, or award number;

  • the funder’s role in the research;

  • any material, technical, or institutional support received.

When there are no conflicts of interest or funding sources, this must also be explicitly declared.

19. Use of Artificial Intelligence

The use of artificial intelligence tools is permitted for activities such as:

  • writing assistance;

  • language revision;

  • translation;

  • information organization;

  • code generation or review;

  • support for data analysis.

Any relevant use of AI must be declared in the manuscript, indicating, whenever possible, the tool used and its purpose.

Artificial intelligence tools:

  • may not be listed as authors;

  • do not replace the responsibility of the authors;

  • must not be used to create nonexistent data, references, or results;

  • do not remove the need for critical review and scientific validation;

  • must not receive personal, confidential, or protected data without appropriate safeguards.

Authors assume full responsibility for the content submitted and published.

20. Data Availability

Whenever possible, the data, software code, instruments, and materials supporting the research results should be deposited in a trusted repository.

The manuscript must include a data availability statement providing:

  • the repository address;

  • the DOI or other persistent identifier;

  • the conditions of access;

  • or a justification for any restrictions.

Personal, confidential, or legally or ethically restricted data do not need to be made publicly available.

21. Translation Articles (TA)

Submissions involving translations of previously published academic works must include:

  • the complete reference of the original publication;

  • documented authorization from the authors, publisher, or copyright holders;

  • identification of the translator or translators;

  • a clear statement indicating that the manuscript is a translation;

  • information concerning any notes, changes, or adaptations.

The translation must not infringe copyrights, publishing agreements, or licenses applicable to the original publication.

22. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright over their published work.

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International — CC BY 4.0 license, which permits sharing, reproduction, distribution, and adaptation, provided that proper attribution is given to the authors and the original source.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all materials included in the manuscript may be published under these conditions.

23. DOI and Open Access

All accepted articles receive an individual DOI and are published in open access, allowing free reading and downloading.

The publication may include:

  • versions in English, Spanish, and Portuguese;

  • multilingual metadata;

  • submission, revision, and acceptance dates;

  • open peer review reports;

  • identification of the reviewers;

  • files and supplementary materials.

24. Publication Fees

The journal operates under an open-access publishing model funded through Article Processing Charges (APCs).

Information on fees, included services, discount criteria, and waiver opportunities is available on the Publication Fees — APC page.

Payment, discounts, or waivers do not influence scientific evaluation or editorial decisions.

No fee is charged for rejected manuscripts.

25. Requested Revisions

When revisions are requested, authors must submit:

  • a revised version of the manuscript;

  • a file showing the changes, when requested;

  • a response letter to the reviewers;

  • an explanation of each change made;

  • a justification for any suggestions that were not incorporated.

Responses must be objective, respectful, and organized according to the comments received.
