Perceptions of Rueda de Casino: Dialogues between Brazil, Cuba, and Norway

Abstract

This article discusses a dance of Cuban origin known as Rueda de Casino. From the perspective of the three authors, we present an account that brings together three viewpoints derived from experiences in different parts of the world involving both the practice and the teaching of this dance. The shared perceptions allow us to highlight the playful, inclusive, and educational nature of Rueda de Casino, which is grounded in the integration of practitioners, the development of empathy, attention to the collective, and collaboration. These characteristics captivate people around the world, as well as those who are beginning to engage in this practice. It is concluded that this dance, which originated as a leisure and entertainment activity, has significant artistic and pedagogical potential and can be applied in different contexts and approaches.
